Once again, Dad wins the week.  I thought I was going to wind up gaining again, but thankfully I kept a close watch on calories over the weekend, even though I went out to dinner and the movies on Saturday.  I knew I was going to have a calorie heavy night, so I took it easy at breakfast and lunch.

Long Run Saturday

My long run on Saturday turned into an even longer run than intended.  I had plotted out a run over 4 overpasses that would have been about a half mile longer than my normal 2 overpass long run.  As I got closer to overpass #3, I soon discovered that this overpass was not going to be safe to run over.  It is a narrow 2 lane road with only rain gutters along the sides.  So no safe area to run along the side of the road on the overpass.  So I then turned around and back-tracked the way that I had come.  It made my walk/run total almost 6.75 miles!

Once I was back home, I hit the shower and got ready to go out for the evening.  I had plans to meet up with some Disney Friends (they have a podcast, the Disney, Indiana Podcast) for dinner at Cheeseburger in Paradise.  We had a nice chat together and a very good dinner (seriously, WHY have they changed the name of the Cheeseburger in Paradise Cheeseburger to the Beach burger??).  We then went down to Franklin, Indiana to the Artcraft Theater to see Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.  It was originally to be Raiders of the Lost Ark, but 4 weeks before they were to show it, the studio pulled the film from release due to the Blu-Ray box set coming out.

We had a lot of fun.  I wound up winning a door prize at the movie, a kids toy, go figure.

Reunion time!

This upcoming weekend is going to be a Family Reunion weekend.  I'll be travelling up to Winamac/Star City, Indiana.  I plan on doing my long run Saturday morning on the Rails to Trails (Panhandle Pathway) path that goes through town.  I think I'll feel safer in that rural setting than attempting the Rails to Trails paths here in Indy.  Since I'll be heading up there after work Friday, it'll be interesting to set this run up.  I'll actually drive over the the Trail head parking area, a short distance from where I'll be spending the night.  I'll have to remember to pack a big towel to put on the car seat and take along my running pouch to carry a couple of items while I'm out running.

The big issue will be for me to try and monitor my food intake closer than I usually do at the Reunions!  I have a bad habit of just letting myself totally pig out (the food is always sooooo gooood!).

The funniest part of this upcoming weekend is that I'll probably be seeing relatives that live very close to me here in Indy, but I usually only see them at reunions!  LOL.

Quick post of Week 7 before Week 8 Results

We have NO WINNER for Week 7!

I've decided that since Dad and I BOTH gained in week 7, that it will be a week that there is NO WINNER.

So far, in weekly totals, Dad is ahead 4 to 2.

It's getting obvious on the weeks that I don't follow through with my walking that I tend to gain in those weeks.  The weeks that I follow my plan and do all of my running and walking I end up loosing a pound.

I got my run in tonight, so I've got to get my walking in tomorrow night.  This week I'll also try getting my walk in closer after dinner and get in a Yoga session after the walk too.

Tomorrow is Week 8 weigh-in, and so far, it's not looking good on my end.  We'll see what the morning brings.

Even if my weight would have been the same as last night, Dad would still have beat me.  Last night, after my run, I weighted in at 242.  From experience, I know that will not be what I weigh in the morning, because I drink water after I've run, so some of that I lost comes right back on by water returned to my body.

If I continue on this track and loose another pound next week, I'll finally be at my lowest point from last year.  I made it down to 242 last year, before I started slowly climbing back up in weight.

Dad still has a bit to go before he hits his lowest from last year of 216.

More Disney plans...

Just got word from Dad that we'll be staying at Port Orleans French Quarter this year.  We've been there before and I've been there several other times too.  We like this resort and it has some nice areas to run.

The lower portion of the map is the French Quarter area.  Last year we stayed in the Riverside portion (building 80 I think).  I think I've stayed in Buildings 1 & 2 of the French Quarter area.  I'd actually like building 1 again for this year, since it is close to the "start" of the Jogging path :)

I'm expecting that end of November will be a much nicer time to run down there than it was last September.  I think I'm in much better physical shape than I was last year, so I don't think that it would affect me the same now.

Running down there last September was like trying to breath through a straw because I wasn't used to all of the humidity.  Now that I'm doing 4-5 miles with regularity, I think I'll be heading into my upcoming half marathons in a much better position than last year.

This now reminds me that I've GOT to make my plans for a room for Marathon Weekend!!  ACK!  I think I'll wrap it up here while I go check the Disney site for what room availability looks like at this point!

Week 4 went to Dad again and week 5 went to me!

Tomorrow we'll be weighing in for Week 6.  I'm hoping that when I get up in the morning I'll weigh the same as I do tonight!  :)

I don't have my normal re-cap information because I've not been a good boy.  I've not kept track of my food intake lately.  :(

Tonight's Run

That picture pretty much states it all for tonight's run.  Hot and more humid that it has been.  I had a "feels like" temperature of 97 when I went out for my run tonight.

Tomorrow they're calling for 99 and a "feels like" temp of up around 105-ish!  They're calling for a chance for rain going into this weekend, but I'll believe that when I feel it.

It seems that adding the walking on my nights that I don't run seem to be helping in the weight loss area.  Now I just need to add back in the resistance band workouts and the Yoga.

I think I'm going to try and go out for my walk earlier than I have been tomorrow night.  I usually wait 90-120 minutes after eating to go out for my run.  I've been doing the same thing for walking, which leaves me very little time to do any resistance and yoga routines.

I think that just walking will be "safer" than running and I should have less risk of a protein spill incident.

New item I want... (sigh).  Wishlist, CLICK.
In a never ending quest to be broke...  I've finally found a pair of sunglasses that I'd like to add to my "running equipment".  These are Tifosi Tyrants.  They come in a variety of different frame options.  The above are the "plain" black and sliver.  The other color combinations I like are the White/red or the White/Orange models.  They have interchangeable lenses.  The pair I show above actually come with those, a clear set and a pair I call "rose color".

I've pulled out an old pair of sunglasses I used to use while driving (before my vision got so bad I HAVE to have Rx glasses on when I drive now).  It confirmed for me that I really should be wearing them, as I now notice that I've been squinting alot when I'm out for my run or walk.  Problem with them is, they like to bounce around a ton.

I've tried wearing my Rx glasses once with my magnetic clip on sunglasses, but they're way too heavy and slide and bounce around way too much.  Worse than the cheapie sunglasses I'm using now.

To answer the question, yes, I can see well enough to run without my Rx glasses.  I've got ambliopic (sp) vision.  My left eye is very bad, my right eye is now a bit far sighted, which has mostly been the trigger for me needing Rx glasses when I drive now.

My current wishlist is fairly short now.  Running Shorts and these Sunglasses.  I've gotten new shoes recently, so I should be set to at least to get through the Monumental Half in November.

Well, my "short update" turned into a little bit longer post than I thought it would!

I'll try to get tomorrows weigh in results posted tomorrow evening.

A bit late with my re-cap from last week.  It felt like I did a lot worse than what I see there.  By the book, I did pretty decent.  This heat is definitely being felt while I'm out on walks & runs!

I'm getting a crash course in what I need in order to run in this sweltering heat.  Not only taking fluids with me, but making sure that I'm getting enough water type fluid the day before and day of the run!  I always just thought I needed to make sure I was well hydrated the day of, but it turns out you really need to be well hydrated the day before too.  Since I'm walking and running most days of the week, it's even more important that I keep drinking that water!

In the past week, I've probably cut back about 50% of the amount of soda type drinks so far.

Week 4 Winner is....

Good news: Both Dad and I lost a pound this past week!
Bad news/Good news: Since I weigh more than Dad, that means he wins this week too!

It really feels like it's been a struggle to start of this competition this year!  Last years competition, I had lost 7 pound and Dad had lost 4 by week 4.  Although week 4 last year had us both not loosing anything that week.

My goal is to be down to at least 220 by the 1/2 Marathon on November 3 (week 21).  My secondary goal is to be at 200 by the time the Disney World 1/2 next January (week 31).  In order to make the secondary goal, I KNOW I have to be under 220 by the first 1/2 Marathon here in Indy since there are only 10 weeks to go after the Monumental 1/2.

Our contest "ends" at week 25, as that is time for the trip to Florida.

Movie Report: Amazing Spider-Man

I met up with Rick and Josh (a person that is down here in Indy with Rick) late last night to take in the new Spider-Man movie.  We met up in Downtown Indy at the Circle Center Mall.  It was my first time at this theater, it's an older theater.  I cannot remember the last time I saw a movie in a non-stadium seating theater!

The seats were comfortable and the movie was really good.  I ended up liking this movie better than the Toby Macguire movies!

Nothing beats going to a movie with some friends!  It was great to be able to talk with someone about the movie right after watching it!

Trip details for November

This past week, they opened up the reservations for Candlelight Processional packages!  The week that we will be there, Neil Patrick Harris will be the presenter (given no schedule changes before we get there).  He is one of the presenters that I've heard are one of the best and I've wanted the chance to see him.

Now, the issue was the restaurants that were available for the day we're going to do this.  We wound up with La Hacienda de San Angel in front of the Mexico pavilion at Epcot.  Our other options were just not ones that we'd want to visit right now.  We will still have the option to go to our other reservation, I just have to remember to cancel one or the other by the time we get there.
