Well, as we can see, I was correct.  Dad managed to maintain again and I blew it.  We'll see how this week goes, but so far I'm thinking that if Dad manages to loose this week, he may get me again.

I've not done too hot on sticking with the diet this week.  Lunches have been my downfall again.  I've been away from the office at lunch time most of this week and failed to take my lunchbox with me, so I've hit the restaurants for most of this week and I can feel it.

I've done more walking this week than in previous weeks, so I hope that may help balance things out this week. I just don't think it'll be enough for the poor lunch decisions I've made this week.

2012 June 25
I thought I'd put up a recent picture.  That was after my run on the 25th.

2011 May 6
Compare that to a picture from 2011...  I don't see a lot of difference myself.  Face seems to be a bit thinner.  About that time I would have been right around 266, so 20 pounds heavier than I am right now.

I have a 5K to look forward to for Sunday after next.  A Disney running buddy is going to be in town from Chicago and we're going to do a 5K in downtown Indianapolis.  I'm looking forward to spending time with him.  You can check Rick's blog that I've linked to on the right there, Journey to Better Health.

He's doing what I've tried to do.  He's managed a huge weight loss in the same period that I was hoping to!  We started running right around the same time, but he's MUCH faster than I am!

Gonna wrap it up here, thanks for Reading!

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 12's and Weekly Recap!

New Shoes!

My new shoes came into my local running shop for me to try on.  Only the 2E's came in, the 4E's were back ordered.  No need for the 4E's, as these were fantastic.  I took them for a short spin on their Treadmill-o-doom and they felt great!  No more sliding around in the toe box!  Apparently some of my weight loss in the past year has made my feet a little bit narrower.
Brooks Adrenaline GTS 12 - Very tame coloring
The price on them have, of course, gone up since the previous model.  I got my GTS 11's for $100, these were $110.  Thankfully, my customer service awards I won last week took the brunt of this bill today :)
Brooks Adrenaline GTS 12 - no longer SUPER WIDE
These, paired with my Brooks Trance 10's (purchased from Runningwarehouse.com on 2/22/12, first run in 2/26/12, on deep discount sale due to release of Trance 11's) should get me through to the Monumental 1/2 Marathon in November.  I'll probably need a new pair or two to carry me through training and the Walt Disney World 1/2 Marathon in January 2013.

If anyone is wondering what the difference between the Trance and Adrenaline's are, you can read this from a conversation at Brooks online : LINK
Brooks Trance 10 - with Garmin Footpod attached
My red and blue pair of Asics 2160's are now being regulated down to my "walking shoes", or "everyday shoes".  I seem to do okay in them when I walk, but running in them was pretty much out of the question lately.  I'm halfway tempted to take the blue Asics 2160's and place them with my other WDW Half Marathon items, as those were what I wore for the race this year.
Asics 2160's - Red and Blue pair
I'm now $.50 away from getting my $25 certificate from the Blue Mile (spend $250 with them and they give you a $25 certificate).  So I should at least get $25 off my next pair of shoes for this fall :)

Once again, I didn't comply 100% with getting everything done with tracking and exercise.  Tuesday night I went out and decided that I would walk the following day. Check, that was about the only think I really stuck to this week.

I'm quite confident that if Dad stuck to his plan this week, I'm going to loose another week to him on Tuesday.  I did a weigh in this morning and it's not looking good for me this week!

Friday...  WOOOF!  OVER calorie goal by a TON!  Mom & I went to Firehouse Subs for something different.  The dinner wasn't too bad, in itself.  It's just when you pile that on top of not walking and adding treats from the theater...  That's what happens when I skip walking to go to the movies.  I went and saw 2 movies Friday night and just really blew it for this week, as I'm quite positive that Tuesday and Wednesday I'm over on the calories too.  (FYI - I went to see Brave and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, both were good movies.)

I managed to eek out another 2 pound loss, meanwhile, Dad stayed even.  He thought for sure that he was going to go up (he said he went up a fraction, but we're only going by the whole numbers on my worksheet.)

The Big Sauna

The big issue around here has been weather!  It's just been HOT.  On my nights to run, I've been mostly walking and doing some running mixed in.  I get back to the house just soaked through.  They're calling for a 40% chance of rain coming up and hopefully a bit of a cool down.

I once again have skipped much more than intended.

Friday I did get some walking in, but it wasn't at a pace that would have been in my intended HR zone.  It was just walking around the mall Friday night.

I did buy the newest issue of Runner's World and the Running shop (Blue Mile) is going to get a couple of pairs of shoes in for me to try on.  It seems that with my weight loss, the 4E width I had been getting is now too wide.  I can feel my feet slipping side to side in the 4E pairs of shoes I have.  The Brooks Trance that I got on hefty sale earlier this year are 2E's, and they seem to fit much nicer now.

So they are going to get in a couple pair of the new Brooks Adrenaline GTS's, one 4E and one 2E to make sure that it's not just my old shoes being stretched out from use.

I got 2 customer recognition awards at work this past Friday morning. They give us a gift card (so I got 2, as many as you can get in a year).  I figured I'd put them to use by getting a new pair of shoes.  I had thought about trying the new New Balance Miniumus shoes, but I'm just not ready to try and change things up now.  I'd rather keep focused on weight loss this summer and then look into bettering my technique once I start training fully for the 1/2 Marathons I have coming up this winter.

In looking at the mileage that I'll be putting on these pairs of shoes, I figure that this new pair should get me through the Monumental 1/2 here in Indy, but I'll need to get a new pair and start breaking them in right after that race to be set for the 1/2 at Walt Disney World in January.

The 2 Pair of Asics 2160's that I have are going to be regulated down to my walking shoes.  They seem to be fine when I walk in them, but when I run in them I'm noticing my legs getting very sore.

Today I stopped in at a local Goodwill store and picked up a decent zip up top to use as my toss away item for the 1/2 in January.  For the Monumental 1/2 here in Indy, I'll probably need all of my cold weather gear that I've already bought when it was starting to get chilly last year.  (Brrr... November 3rd race in Indianapolis)

I still have the toss away pants that I had bought for this year's race.  I didn't end up using them because I trusted the Weather Channel was correct when I headed out the door for the race that said it was 50 degrees!  It was much too obvious that was wrong once I was out the door.

Dad had a better week than I did!

I had a few days last week where I was over my calorie limit, but I don't think that would have made much of an effect this week.  I'm just glad that I'm going in the right direction!

It's OFFICIAL!

I'm now officially registered for both the 5K and the 1/2 Marathon for Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend for 2013!  People who register for the Goofy do both the 1/2 Marathon on Saturday and then the Full Marathon on Sunday!

I call doing the 5K on Friday and the 1/2 on Saturday Pluto :)

A small thing that fills me with Pride.

Earlier this year I got a message from my Step-sister that my Niece has been inspired by watching me at the Half Marathon this year, that she wanted to run it with me next year.  She's even gotten interested in Track at school!

Problem being is that she won't be old enough (Must be at least 14 by the time of the 1/2).  We could do the 5K together, but I'm not sure that it would be possible to do that Friday morning and be able to get her to school on time.  The run is at 6:30 am, and figuring it may take 30-45 minutes go do the 5K would be 7-7:15-ish.  It's then a 45 minute drive to get back to where my Step-sister lives or probably to the area where her school is.  If I'm looking at the correct school, it says that school hours are 9 till 3:50.  If that were true, there could be a chance we could do it.

I'd LOVE to be able to have her along for the 5K on Friday.  I guess we'll see if things can come together!

So, I was a net under calories for the week by 2050.  With Skipping Friday's walk and going to the movies instead AND eating a whole package of Twizzlers put a huge increase of calories for that day.

I went to see Prometheus and I really should have just gone walking instead!  I didn't enjoy the movie, it was a HUGE disappointment.

I THINK I'm going to be looking pretty good going into Tuesdays weigh in, as long as I don't blow it Monday!

I just have to mow the lawn and do my normal weekly Sunday chores today.  I'll then have my Workout and Yoga to do later today!

IT'S ON AGAIN!! Welcome to Week Zero

Let's get ready to RUMBLE!!!

At the EXACT same amount of weeks before my next Florida/Disney World trip that we began at last year, Dad has decided to bring it on again!  We have 25 Weeks till our vacation, and we're going to go for a biggest loser style contest again.

So this brings us to our initial weigh in.  Week Zero.  I'm still 7 pounds over the lowest weight that I had last year (242# @ 11/15/11).  I started our contest last year weighing in at a whopping 275#!  Dad is starting 3 pounds over what he started with last year (227# @ 3/29/11).  His lowest recorded weight during our contest last year came @ 5/31/11 with 216#.

This year Vs. Last

With the shift in the vacation plan this year, this will actually put me right in the middle of my Marathon(s) training time.  I will have already run the Indy Monumental Half on November 3 (brr!!!) and will be in my next training mode for the Disney World 5K and Half in January of 2013!  (Goofy is running the 1/2 and Full marathons, so I figure the 5K and 1/2 should be dubbed Pluto :)

Last year I was just starting the Bridge 2 10K program  and was not yet running as long of a distance that I would start into on the 1/2 Marathon Training Program!

My thought on how we started at the same time.

You can make dining reservations at Disney World (called ADR's) at 180 days out from your stay.  So last week I was making our reservations.  I called Dad last Saturday Morning telling him that I had made the last reservation and what they all were.  So we began discussing that we really should get back on it for loosing weight again!  So, I'm sure we had much of the same discussion last year when I made the reservations!  :)

For those that are interested, here are the reservations that I made, with links to their Disney World websites.

Day 1: Magic Kingdom - The Plaza Restaurant
Day 2: Hollywood Studios - 50's Prime Time Cafe
Day 3: Epcot - Tutto Italia
Day 4: Magic Kingdom Resorts - Polynesian - Ohana
Day 5: Magic Kingdom Resorts - Contemporary - Chef Mickey's

The last day will be a partial day for me, so we will be doing the breakfast buffet at Chef Mickey's.  It's a character meal, so we'll get to see Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Minnie!

One possible change could come from the fact that we might want to do a Candlelight Processional Dinner package at Epcot.

If you are ever in Disney World around the Christmas Holiday season, you MUST go see the Candlelight Processional at Epcot!  I look forward to it each time we visit in the Christmas Time season!

It's "NEW"!!

New Toy!
My "new" Garmin 405CX

After my disappointment on winning a bid for one of these and having it come back "RESERVE NOT MET", I was surprised to turn right back around and win one at almost the exact same price!  So I've finally spent my birthday money from earlier in the month.  It came Thursday and last night was my first trial run with it.

One of my first impressions so far is pertaining to the Garmin HR monitor.  It's awful.  Compared to the Polar HR Monitor, this thing is VERY uncomfortable.  Of course, you can get one from Garmin that is similar in style to the Polar, but it will set you back $70.00.  *sigh*  I'll just have to deal with this one and try to adjust it so it will be a bit more comfortable.  Oh, and of course, I also would like to get the foot-pod by the time I start my Half Marathon(s) training, so I can work on cadence.

The watch itself fit's my wrist very nicely.  I was worried from many people saying that it was way to large an clunky.  I've found that my wrist is wide enough that it wraps around very comfortably for me.

The light on the Garmin is MUCH brighter than the Polar!  I can actually see the screen when I light it up in a dark room.  The Polar HR watch was a big disappointment in that area, as it is VERY dim.

I've had some difficulty in getting some training routines that I created with the software to load into the watch properly.  I'll try it again before my next run.  Apparently I've used some options that only work for the newer GPS watches and I will have to "simplify" the interval plans I tried to create.

The new Maintenance Plan

Sun
Mon
Tue
Wed
Thurs
Fri
Sat
Resistance Band + Yoga
Run
Walk or Light Run
Resistance Band + Yoga
Rest
Walk or Light Run
Long(er) Run

Here it is!  This is going to be my "maintenance" plan.  I've loosely (okay, mostly) based it on Hal Higdons Novice 1 Half Marathon Training plan that  I used last fall.  The resistance band workouts will be split into an upper and lower body segment, one for each day.  I also plan on just starting with the 30 minute Yoga workout from the DVD.

The days of walking or light run will be just that.  I just want to keep my body in the proper HR Zone to promote fat burning on those days.

Part 2 to this is that I'm going to start using MyFitnessPal again to keep track of the food I'm cramming in my mouth.

Upcoming news...

This brings me to a little bit of a teaser.  I'll be posting some new news on Tuesday!  Keep watch, as I'm rather excited about this bit of news!
