Week 2 - Half Marathon Training

Dad & I at Magic Kingdom 9-3-2011
In 11 more weeks, I'll be running down Main Street (in the picture above) in Magic Kingdom, taking a right hand turn into Tomorrowland, left around into Fantasyland to come through the Castle at just about the 1/2 way point of the 2012 Walt Disney World Half Marathon!

Week 1 of my Half Marathon training went okay.  I held steady at 245# for the 2nd week in a row.  I seem to be having a much harder time now getting weight off.  Inches are coming off, but not so much the overall weight.  Now that I'm stepping up to being active almost every day of the week, I'm hoping that next week will start to see some more weight coming off.
Mondays run was outside & very chilly.  Tuesday and Wednesday I ran on the POS Treadmill, it actually worked.  Tuesday and Wednesday was very cold and raining, so I braved the Treadmill.  Wednesday I cut the run a bit short.  I had planned on 1/4 Mile warm up walk/3 Mile Run/ 1/4 Mile cool down.  My left hamstring decided that it really didn't like running 3 days in a row and let me know it.  So rather than risk injury, I cooled off and just had a total mileage of 3 instead of 3.5 total.
Saturday is my long run day for the week.  I could really tell that I once again didn't drink enough water Friday and Saturday.  After the 1st mile, my left hamstring once again started letting me know it was there.  So I decided to stop and try a little bit of stretching.  It seemed to help, for about 1/4 mile.  So I wound up Run/Walking the 4 miles Saturday evening.  I did do a 1/4 Mile warm up walk, 4 Mile Run/Walk, 1/4 Mile cool down walk.

Week 2 is pretty much a repeat of Week 1.  Once again, I'll be doing the 2 Mile run on the Tuesday Run or Cross training day.

Per this training schedule, the long run in week 6 is recommended to enter a 5K race.  It so happens, that there will actually be a 5K being held in the Indy area at that time.  I'm looking into possibly entering into it.  I have several weeks to think about it before the entry fee goes up.  The need for new shoes and paying the remainder of my room for the 1/2 Marathon in January may dictate that I'll not be able to afford entering into any other races right now :-(

Update - Long time, no post!!

I've not kept up with this as much as I was planning on.  I've got to remember to set time aside in my schedule to get some updates up more often!  Anyhow, on to the weight loss progress!  YES, there has finally been SOME progress!

Week Date Kipp Weekly% Overall%
3/22/2011 275
25 9/13/2011 250 -4 -1.63% 9.09%
26 9/20/2011 250 0 0.00% 9.09%
27 9/27/2011 249 1 0.40% 9.45%
28 10/4/2011 248 1 0.40% 9.82%
29 10/11/2011 245 3 1.21% 10.91%

That finally brings me to my "official" 30 pounds lost marker!  I'm setting aside another $25 for Give Kids the World!  Up to $75 in the "till" now!

Tonight marked my last scheduled run for the B210K (Bridge 2 10K) program.  I didn't hit the 6 mile mark as I'd hoped, but I've proven to myself that I CAN run for an hour straight!  Week 6 of the program is just a series of 3 60 minute runs.  Since I repeated a couple of weeks on the B210K, this places me square at the front door of my beginning of my 1/2 Marathon Training Schedule!

Tonight was also my first run in my new "cool" weather gear.  I was impressed my how cozy I was running in them.  The pants are just a tad bit too long for me, and need to be taken up.  The skin tight base layer long sleeve top didn't bother me as much as I thought it would.  I usually don't like wearing long sleeves.  The part that was bothersome was since the material is rather "slick", my armband for my iPhone kept sliding down on me!  Oops...  it was just a minor nuisance.

Week 1 1/2 Marathon Training Schedule:

I don't have a set solid plan for my Cross-Training.  I was hoping to get a bicycle, but the money fairy hasn't been kind to me this year yet.  So on the days where it says Run or Cross, I'll probably be running.  Fridays, not quite sure what to do yet.  Of course, living in Central Indiana will probably put the kabash on a lot of outdoor activities very soon.

I had also planned on getting some home "equipment" from Thera-band.  I need a new set of the "light resistance" bands.  I also wanted to get the Stretching torture device from them too.  Again, the pesky "money" thing is interfering with things.  There were also 2 books on my list, one for weight free workouts, and the other was for resistance band training.  I can manage with what I have on hand for now.  It just would have been nice to started off with new shiny things!

Another stumbling block that has come up, I've run through my Brooks Adrenaline GTS 11's quicker than I thought I would.  They say that your running shoes ought to last around 400 Miles.  Due to my weight, I've gone through them in just less than 200.  I'll definitely need to get a new pair a few weeks prior to the race, as I'll need adjustment time.

Well, enough of my whining and moaning tonight!
